Courses Can Count for PgMP PDUs, Check Five Records Before Enrolment
Before paying for PgMP training, check the exact CCRS record, credential allocation, timing and audit evidence required by PMI’s 2026 rules.

In brief
A PgMP course can count as an Education PDU activity, but the course title and a PDU promise are not enough. PMI’s April 2026 rules require the holder to check timing, credential-specific Talent Triangle allocation, reporting information and audit evidence before relying on a course.

The course may count, but its title does not decide the claim
A PgMP course can be an Education activity for PDU purposes. PMI includes instructor-led courses held in person or online, virtual training, company-sponsored training and educational events in its Courses or Training category. Self-paced online learning can also be claimed when the holder supplies the required activity information and evidence.
The timing is non-negotiable. Activities completed before you earn a PMI certification are not eligible as PDUs, and you cannot claim the same course or activity twice. The checks below reflect PMI’s April 2026 CCR Handbook.
Ask for the records that support a future claim
The useful question before payment is not simply “How many PDUs?” Ask whether the course information lets you identify the activity, allocate the learning correctly and retain evidence. PMI requires each course to be reported separately, and its audit requirements differ slightly by delivery format.
| Course situation | What to confirm | Evidence to retain |
|---|---|---|
| Instructor-led, virtual or formal course | Exact course title, provider, delivery format, completion date and PDU allocation for your credential | Registration form, certificate of completion or letter of attendance |
| Self-paced online or digital learning | Provider, title, description, dates started and completed, plus Talent Triangle allocation | Evidence of learning, including notes and activity dates |
| Course appears in CCRS | Provider, delivery method, dates, credential-specific allocation and total PDUs | The course record plus your completion evidence |
PMI’s handbook specifies the first two rows, while current CCRS course records show how a record can display delivery, dates and a credential-specific PDU split. A provider that cannot give you the relevant details leaves you with less information to report and defend the activity later.
Turn a course description into a PDU record
Use this sequence before you enrol. It separates the certification-timing decision from the course, allocation and evidence checks that follow. If you need the reporting screens after completion, use our CCRS reporting guide.
Trace the activity before you buy
A CCRS search is a practical first check because it can show the course and credential allocation. Where you need to report a course yourself, retain the course details and completion evidence rather than relying on a broad programme description.
Your PDU mix matters as much as the course total
For PgMP, a course total only helps if it supports the mix still missing from your cycle. PMI’s maintenance requirements make the Talent Triangle split important, especially when a course concentrates in one learning area.
| Requirement | Amount | What it means for course selection |
|---|---|---|
| Certification cycle | 3 years | Plan activity against the current cycle, not an indefinite course-access period |
| Total requirement | 60 PDUs | A course may contribute only part of the total |
| Education minimum | 35 PDUs | Education courses can help meet this minimum |
| Talent Triangle minimum | 8 PDUs in each of Ways of Working, Power Skills and Business Acumen | Check the course allocation, not only its total |
| Giving Back maximum | 25 PDUs | Giving Back cannot replace the required Education minimum |
PMI sets these PgMP requirements in its certification-maintenance guidance. For the education decision itself, separate PDU eligibility from whether the course covers the PgMP domains you need.
Keep the documents after the claim is reported
PMI says certification holders are responsible for reporting PDU activities as they occur through CCRS or the PMI mobile app. It also says to keep supporting documents for at least 18 months after the certification cycle ends because PDU claims can be audited.
That makes a completion certificate useful, but not sufficient on its own. Retain the course identity, dates and learning record alongside it. This approach is not ideal for someone who wants to buy solely on a headline PDU number, because the decision requires checking the individual activity and the learner’s own certification cycle first.
Choose learning after the renewal check
Once the PDU record is clear, compare the learning method, application support and exam preparation that match your stage. What should an online PgMP course teach? can help you assess the learning content separately from the PDU claim.
