No Official PfMP Exam Pass Rate Is Published by PMI
PMI publishes 170 questions, 240 minutes and a psychometric scoring process, but no PfMP pass-rate percentage. Assess provider claims properly.

In brief
PMI currently publishes no official PfMP exam pass-rate percentage or fixed numeric passing mark. It does publish a 170-question, 240-minute format and a psychometric scoring process, so provider rates are provider-specific evidence rather than PMI data.

PMI supplies exam rules, not a population pass rate
As of September 2026, PMI’s current PfMP certification page and PfMP Certification Handbook do not provide an official PfMP exam pass-rate percentage. They also do not provide a fixed numeric passing mark.
That distinction matters. A pass rate is the share of a defined group who passed. A passing standard is the level of performance required of an individual candidate. PMI says its exams are criteria-based and that subject-matter experts use psychometric analysis to determine the standard. A percentage from a forum, a mock exam, or a provider’s own learners is not therefore an official PMI PfMP pass rate.
The practical next step is to separate your exam question from your provider question. Use PMI’s rules to understand the credential, then use a provider’s disclosed cohort and method to decide whether its own outcome figure is meaningful. Start with the PfMP credential and its three eligibility paths before treating any course result as relevant to you.
The official figures that candidates can use
PMI does publish enough information to plan the examination and identify what a preparation claim is not measuring.
| Published element | Official figure or rule | What it tells a candidate | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Exam format | 170 questions in 240 minutes, English only | The time and question-count benchmark for timed practice | Project Management Institute, current PfMP certification page, 2026 |
| Scored items | 150 scored questions and 20 unscored pretest questions | Not every question affects the score | Project Management Institute, PfMP Certification Handbook, 2022 |
| Exam blueprint | Strategic Alignment 25%, Governance 20%, Portfolio Performance 25%, Portfolio Risk Management 15%, Communications Management 15% | Two domains, Strategic Alignment and Portfolio Performance, account for half of the blueprint | Project Management Institute, current PfMP certification page, 2026 |
| Panel gate | A candidate must pass panel review before scheduling the examination | Exam-only pass claims do not describe every certification stage | Project Management Institute, current PfMP certification page, 2026 |
| Attempts | Up to three attempts during a one-year eligibility period | A first attempt is a specific event, not the same as eventual certification | Project Management Institute, PfMP Certification Handbook, 2022 |
A provider rate needs a defined cohort
A useful provider figure begins with a denominator, not a headline percentage. The calculation is verified first-attempt passes divided by defined eligible first-attempt candidates, and each part needs an auditable definition.
Use the six checks in our first-attempt success methodology when comparing a provider’s result. If the figure does not identify who was counted, what event counted as a pass and how unknown outcomes were handled, it cannot answer your likelihood of passing.

Preparation support should fit the stage you need to clear
Our current October 2026 PfMP Fast Track Programme is designed around a 12-week path and costs US$1,100, reduced from US$1,500. We include live online sessions, application support, a 1:1 mentor gap assessment, one-year access to session recordings, self-paced video lectures, 1,000+ exam questions, templates, case studies, community access and a 24-PDU completion certificate.
This programme is for senior managers, programme managers, portfolio managers, PMO managers and professionals moving into portfolio-management roles. It is not a substitute for PMI’s experience requirements, panel review or the candidate’s own exam performance. If your main uncertainty is application evidence rather than exam practice, begin by identifying the support you need through our PfMP certification support guide.
